FEATURE WEB SITE OF THE MONTH Corel Paradox® 10 Features An easy-to-use relational database designed for new users, yet powerful enough for experts and developers. Do more in less time!
Corel Paradox® 10 - Runtime Runtime is a non-interactive version of Paradox that can only run your application. If you have developed forms and reports create a complete application, then Paradox Runtime will play them without having regular interactive Paradox. This benefits the end user allowing them to use your application without owning Paradox. Paradox Runtime lets you distribute the power of Paradox with your application in a highly economical fashion. Paradox Runtime users have access to all Paradox capabilities and operations that are built into the application they are using. The Runtime License allows you to make unlimited copies of Paradox Runtime in order to distribute copies of your application. Applications that run under Paradox Runtime can support all of Paradox's multiuser capabilities. These features are fully described in the online help. Note: Corel Paradox 10 Runtime will be available for download from Corel's website this month and will soon be added to the software CD's included with the Corel WordPerfect Office 2002 Professional Edition. April 2001 - A Message from Corels' CEO - Derek J. Burney Dear Customers and Partners, There have been a number of positive developments at Corel over the past several months. I'd like to give you a snapshot of some recent highlights and paint a picture of where we're headed over the coming quarters. First of all, Corel demonstrated its commitment to its international customers through our strong presence at CeBIT – the world's most widely attended technology trade show – held recently in Hanover, Germany. In particular, we unveiled our launch schedule for five new versions of Corel's award-winning creative products targeting international markets – Bryce 5, CorelDRAW® 10 for Mac, Corel® KnockOut 2, Corel® Painter 7 and KPT 7. All of these new products will be available in international English, French and German. This full lineup of creative product releases, available across North America and in international markets this summer and fall, illustrates our expanded support for the Macintosh platform. With simultaneous releases on Windows and Mac OS 9 and X, summer 2001 will be Corel's "Summer of the Mac!" We understand that the Mac is the predominant platform for professional designers and Corel is dedicated to providing the tools they need to fully express their creativity. Speaking of creativity, I'd like to point out that CorelDRAW® 10 has earned the prestigious PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award for Illustration Software. This is the second time CorelDRAW® has won this award from the world's largest technology publication. We're very proud of CorelDRAW® 10 and this award is a testament to our commitment to provide the best possible graphics solution for our customers. In addition, the latest version of our flagship office suite – WordPerfect® Office 2002 – will be available to customers across North America beginning May 1, 2001. In this upgrade, we have returned the loyalty our WordPerfect users have shown over the years by gathering extensive input from our customers during the development process. Over 70 per cent of the new features and enhancements included in WordPerfect® Office 2002 are a direct result of customer feedback and the new features appear to be right on target based upon the feedback we've received from our Beta testers. We continue to forge strong alliances with industry-leading partners such as Sony, Hewlett-Packard and Konica, who recognize the value of bundling Corel software with their products. Through our partnership with Digital Island, we've enhanced our Web presence through Web site infrastructure improvements. We believe our customers around the globe will appreciate the dramatic improvements in the speed and quality of service as they download Corel software, complete e-commerce transactions and navigate through the Corel Web site. Finally, I'd like to give you a brief update on the company's financial standing. In our latest financial results, we announced some progress on one of the goals announced in January as part of the company's new corporate strategy. This strategy is designed to reposition Corel for long-term growth and profitability. We had originally targeted Q3 2001 for a return to profitability. On March 29, 2001, for the period ending February 28, 2001, we announced a net profit of US $534,000 or $0.01 per share fully diluted. We are very pleased that we were able to post a profit two quarters ahead of schedule! We are encouraged by our overall results and we are moving swiftly to ensure we execute the goals set out in our three-year plan for the company. I am confident Corel is on the right track to meet its objectives. We have a dedicated team of employees who are focused on delivering the highest quality of service and products to you – our loyal customers and partners. On behalf of everyone here, I thank you for your continued support. Trade Show schedule for May 2001 Corel Corporation will be participating in the following trade shows for the month of May 2001:
Developer TIPSWordPerfect Macro: Bringing a Window to the ForegroundSometimes when you are creating a macro you need to bring a specific window to the foreground; with PerfectScript you can accomplish this quite easily. Lets say we are writing a macro where at some point you need to bring the Calculator forward so that you can do some calculations. Instead of having to manually bring the Calculator forward all you need to do is use the following code: //Macro Code Begins... //The SetForegroundWindow function changes the input focus (the current window) to the //specified window. In this example ensure that the calculator is open before running it /* Load the user.dll and place the handle to it into a variable called User. This is a system dll found on all computers. */ User = DllLoad ("USER") //Locate the Calculator window and put the handle into a variable called hWnd hWnd=AppLocate ("Calculator") //Set window state to default size hWnd1=AppShow (Window:hWnd; State:Default!) //Set focus to the calculator window and bring it to the forground DllCall (User;"SetForegroundWindow"; hPrev:WORD; {hWnd}) // Now you must close the handle to the USER.DLL DllFree (User) //Macro Code Ends... Now all you have to do is run this code when the Calculator is open and it will automatically bring it to the top. This macro uses a call to the system dll, USER.dll. Its tells the operating system to bring the calculator window to the foreground. There are plenty of examples of these in the Software Development Kit (SDK). You can find this at http://www.corel.com/partners_developers/csp/soft_kits.htm If you would like to see specific examples of other Perfectscript macros or OPAL coding, please email partners@corel.com with the details. |
