Very few software companies achieved a solid reputation like Ulead back in the 90’s. In August 1989, the company was formed by three Taiwanese entrepreneurs named Lotus Chen, Lewis Liaw, and Way-Zen Chen. PhotoStyler was their first product, a true color photo editor for Windows PC. Aldus purchased this software from Ulead and later it was acquired by Adobe. But Ulead continued its operations and introduced some popular software like VideoStudio, PhotoImpact, Cool 360, and iPhoto plus. The company was merged with Intervideo in 2005 and the following year the whole merger was acquired by Corel. While the Ulead name has faded away, many of the features that users loved are still available in Corel’s software.
