Thinking About Windows Vista? Corel is!
One of the biggest technology news stories for 2006 is the planned launch in January 2007 of Microsoft's new operating system (OS), Windows Vista. There has been a tremendous volume of coverage examining Windows Vista this year, focusing both on the new capabilities of Windows Vista, and on Microsoft's many delays in bringing this new OS to market.
Since Windows Vista represents the first operating system from Microsoft in over five years, Corel is thinking a lot about the new OS. Corel is pleased to provide the following short introduction to Windows Vista. Stay tuned to future editions of the Corel WordPerfect Office Expert for more information on how Corel products can help you get the most out of Windows Vista.
What is Windows Vista?
Windows Vista is Microsoft's next major version of the Windows operating system. Formerly code-named Longhorn, Windows Vista is the first major OS upgrade to be offered by Microsoft in approximately five years.
Are there any major enhancements over Windows XP in Windows Vista?
Microsoft is billing Windows Vista as a major upgrade – the biggest since Windows 95. Industry analysts aren't certain that there are any real "must have" features that will compel you to immediately upgrade from the last version of Windows – Windows XP – but if you're interested in better security, integrated desktop search or, if your machine is powerful enough, an advanced and exciting new user interface called "Aero," Vista may be worth considering. There will be five different versions of Windows Vista, so you'll need to decide which one is right for you. You can read more about Windows Vista on Microsoft's website at www.microsoft.com/vista
Should I upgrade?
It depends on how happy you are with your existing OS. Most users of Windows Vista will get the OS when they buy a new PC, and this might be a good approach if you're satisfied with your existing copy of Windows. The best advice may be to assess your needs and ask yourself: Do I need a new OS or can I add additional software or hardware to my current PC to get what I need?
One note of caution about Windows Vista: The minimum system requirements of Windows Vista are significant, meaning Windows Vista may be more than your current PC can handle. You can learn more about what it takes to run Windows Vista at www.microsoft.com/vista.
