September By Design Designer Profile: Tom Knight

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your work.

I have been interested in — and pursuing — art and illustration since I was child. In high school I won multiple art and illustration awards in the New York State high school art shows. I studied graphic design in college and then went to work in sales and marketing. After about a decade of working in marketing, I became interested in graphic design and decided to change careers and return to my artistic talent. At that time, I began working with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and have continued working with it until today. For me, working as a designer is not work but my passion. In February 2006, I launched the AdvancedArtist.com Web site with one tutorial. Today the site draws thousands of visitors a month from all over the world.

It is amazing to me that a software graphics application can give an artist the ability to express the talent that they were born with. And now, with the Internet, I am able to use that tool through video to help other artists and designers develop their talent.

2) How long have you been using CorelDRAW?

I have been working with CorelDRAW since 1995, both as freelance graphic designer and in various graphic design jobs.

3) How does CorelDRAW fit into your day-to-day workflow?

CorelDRAW is the core of my daily workflow. I use it for everything from simple logos and designs, to Web design and video graphics. I do not believe there is any other application on the market that offers Corel's intuitive user interface or ease of use.

4) What do you like best about CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

There are actually many things I like about the suite. My favorites are the integration of the combined functionality of CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT, the customizable work space, and-most of all-the interactive tools that allow me to create advanced design effects quickly and easily.

5) If you are able to share, what projects are in your future?

At this time, my team and I are developing a Web-based t-shirt design and template system that will soon be available on www.easycustomtshirts.com. We are using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite for every aspect of the work on this project, from the design of the company logo to the layout of the Web site.
