Up-sampling videos to make them look better

In WinDVD, you can make your videos look better by using the Up-sampling feature.

Up-sampling uses WinDVD's filtering technology that improves picture quality by "computing and adding" pixels where and as they are needed. As such, this filter can be applied to videos that are renedered using the WinDVD decoder.

You can apply up-sampling filter to MPEG 2, VC1, and H.264 videos.

To up-sample a video:

1. Open WinDVD 9 and start playing your MPEG 2, VC1, or H.264 video.

2. Click Video and select Enhancement to open the Enhance Video Panel. In the Enhancement tab, you can select the filters to apply.

Note: If the video enhancement filters are not enabled, click Setup to open the Setup dialog box. In the Audio/Video Setup tab, make sure that Use Hardware Decode Acceleration is not selected. This allows WinDVD to bypass the hardware-based noise filtering technology provided by your video card.

3. To up-sample your video, select Up-sampling.

To compare the quality before and after applying the Up-sampling filter, you can zoom in on your video by clicking Personalize and selecting Zoom and Pan.
