1. What is Corel WordPerfect Lightning?

Corel WordPerfect Lightning is a new kind of free word processing and note-taking software from Corel that fills a gap between today's existing desktop and Web-based productivity tools.

Corel WordPerfect Lightning provides a simple set of tools that make it fast and easy to perform your most common productivity tasks. WordPerfect Lightning makes it easier than ever before to capture, use and reuse the ideas, information and images that are important to you.

Use it to capture your notes, read documents, easily collect information and images, and create, edit and collaborate on a wide variety of document types. You can even use WordPerfect Lightning as a fast and simple organizer for all your ideas and documents. It's like a word processor, notebook, whiteboard and filing cabinet wrapped into one.

2. How do I get started?

Getting WordPerfect Lighting is easy. Just visit www.wordperfect.com/lightning and press the ‘download' button.

WordPerfect Lightning is under 20 MB in size and downloads in minutes. Lightning will launch automatically once your download is complete.

When you download Lightning, you'll also have the option to download a free trial version of Corel WordPerfect Office X3, so when you need the capabilities of a full-featured office suite, it will be on your system, free, for you to try.

Also free is your own WordPerfect Lightning Online Account, giving you an online workspace where you can store your WordPerfect Lightning content, share emails, contacts, bookmarks, back up files and do much more—all for free.

3. What browsers do you support?

This part is really simple—you don't need a browser to use WordPerfect Lightning. It's a new, light, standalone application that works with or without an Internet connection. If you want to collaborate online, you do need a browser—Firefox 1.5 or later is recommended—but WordPerfect Lightning Online is compatible with Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 or Safari 2.0.4 or later. As long as you are running a modern JavaScript-enabled Web browser, you can use the online resources that we are providing through our partners.

4. Why do I have to register to use it?

WordPerfect Lightning is currently in public beta. Public beta means that anyone can download and use WordPerfect Lightning on their PC for free.

When you register for the beta, you will automatically receive login rights for the WordPerfect Lightning Community, hosted at www.wordperfect.com/lightning/community. This community will let you post your feedback—the critical information we need to make sure WordPerfect Lightning works the way you need it to.

We want your feedback to help make the product even better, so we hope you won't mind logging in to contribute your suggestions. We also want to be able to contact you when we have updates to the software so you can try the latest and greatest.

5. How do I suggest a new feature?

Suggesting features or enhancements for WordPerfect Lightning is easy. Just visit www.wordperfect.com/lightning/community and click the "Forums" tab. You can navigate to the appropriate areas to make product suggestions, report bugs or anything else WordPerfect Lightning-related.

7. What can I do with it?

8. How do I save my work?

No need to worry about this one: WordPerfect Lightning saves your projects for you! WordPerfect Lighting is all about making your work easier, so it automatically saves all of your changes, and with a click of a button, you can save your notebook content online. Want to put your notes together and save them as a complete document? You can easily send your notes to WordPerfect X3 where you can save them wherever you want, in a wide variety of file formats (including Microsoft Office). You can even publish them to PDF. 9. How do I edit my work?

All your notes and documents are saved automatically in Navigator. New notes and documents are always automatically added to Navigator, and it's easy to drag your documents into new, or even multiple, folders. To edit a note, simply double click it in Navigator. Your Notes window will open so you can add your desired content and apply a wide variety of formatting options.

Need to edit a PDF, Microsoft Word, or WordPerfect file? Read the document in Viewer and then send your document to WordPerfect Office X3 (yes, even text-oriented PDF files) where you can edit, add comments, compare documents and do much more.

10. How do I import data?

During our public beta phase, WordPerfect Lightning works with three file types: Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and Adobe Acrobat files. To open documents in WordPerfect Lightning, simply right click the file and select "Open with WordPerfect Lightning." From within the WordPerfect Lightning Navigator, click the folder with the arrow and then browse for the document of your choice.

Once your document is open, WordPerfect Lightning will remember it as a "linked document," and you'll be able to move the document into the folder of your choice.
