There are various ways, applications and formats that will help you create subtitles for your captured videos. VideoStudio offers an easy way of subtitling your movies. This tutorial shows you how to make use of VideoStudio's Title Step for your subtitles.
Step 1: Creating Title cards in the Title Step
Before you start creating text or Title cards for your project, it is recommended that you have written down all the dialogues delivered in your video clips. This will make the process of creating the Title cards a lot faster.
Drag all video clips to be used to the Timeline. For this tutorial, we will only have one video clip as our example.
In this video, there are three speaking lines delivered by our subjects onscreen or the bikers.
- Man 1: We're going uphill now
- Man 2: Ready Chief!
- Man 1: Show 'em what we've got boys!
First, we need to create Title cards in Title Step. Since there are three speaking lines in our video we will also create three Title cards.
In the Title Step, double-click the Preview Window and enter Dialogue A. Since we will save this in subtitle format later on, we need not pay attention to the attributes of the text.
Now that we have Title card A ready, we can start creating a new folder in the Library Manager where we can put all our Title cards together.
Open the Library Manager and create Subtitles folder under Title category.
You can start saving Title card A in this folder by opening Subtitles folder in the Library and then dragging Title card A from the Timeline to Subtitles.
Let's continue creating Title card B and Title card C.
Step 2: Saving Title cards as one .UTF file
Now that we have completed all three Title cards, it's time to precisely position them in the Timeline at the exact time wherein the dialogues will be delivered. This is important because once the Title cards are saved as a subtitle file, the positions of these Title cards on the Title track will also be saved.
When done, hold [Shift] key and then select all Title cards in the Timeline
In the Attributes tab of Title Step Options Panel, click Save Subtitle File.
Type in the file name in the Save As dialog box. Movie subtitle file (*.utf) should be selected in In Save as type. Make sure that the correct language is also selected in Language.
Click Save.
Step 3: Opening your subtitle file
Clear all Title cards on the Title track. In the Title Step Options Panel, click Open Subtitle File. The Open Subtitle File dialog box appears.
Browse for the file you want to open. You can choose the Font, Font size, Font color, Glow shadow, etc. for your subtitles. Click Open.
