On January 23, Corel president and CEO Derek Burney showed that Corel has its eye on the future as he unveiled the company's new corporate strategy, which is designed to achieve long-term growth and profitability.

Specifically, Corel will continue to develop top-quality products and services customers have come to expect, most notably the flagship brands CorelDRAW® and WordPerfect®. At the same time, Corel will use its expertise in the graphics arena to pursue opportunities in new, high-growth markets. The long-term program is based on the three key principles of: Dynamic Technology, Dedication to the Customer and Disciplined Financial Management.

At Macworld in San Francisco last month, Corel introduced downloadable beta previews of Corel® KnockOut 1.5.1 and Bryce® 4.1 for Mac® OS X.

Corel KnockOut 1.5.1 is a native Mac OS X product that sports the Aqua interface and its continuous visual feedback. Distorting images using blobs in Corel Painter 6:

You can use Corel Painter 6 to distort images and create warp effects similar to that of oil in water by placing blobs of a pattern, color or image on a liquid image.

To distort an image using blobs:
1. Choose Effects menu, Esoterica, Blobs.
2. Enter a value in the Number Of Blobs value box.
3. Enter values in the Minimum Size and Maximum Size boxes.
4. Enter a Subsample value in the Subsample box.
5. Make a selection from the Fill Blobs With menu, and choose one of the following fills:

• Paste Buffer – fills blobs with the Clipboard's contents
• Current Color – fills blobs with the current color
• Pattern – fills blobs with a pattern

Controlling the flow of text around an object in WordPerfect 9

In WordPerfect 9, you can control the flow of text around an object. This feature lets you integrate text and graphics in a document to create interesting effects.

To control the flow of text around an object:

1. Right-click an object, and click Wrap.
2. Enable one of the following buttons:

• Square – lets you align the text against the left and right sides of an object
• Contour – lets you align the text along the contours of an object
• Neither Side – lets you have no text on either side of an object
• Behind Text – lets you place an object behind text
• In Front Of Text – lets you place an object over text
