What version of CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite do you use?

I'm currently using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3.

How long have you been in your profession?

I started as a freelance/independent designer in the summer of 1998.

Why did you choose your profession?

I don't really think I chose it, more that I gravitated to it through a series of odd jobs. I was finishing a degree in Media and Communications and had my eye on being either a journalist or working in a funky advertising agency.

How did you get started in this profession?

My first serious job was in Ottawa, where I was hired as a Lead Designer putting together ads for a computer training company. I had helped publish a free lifestyle magazine the same year and was considered a fresh new graphic designer.

What are your most important accomplishments / memorable moments?

One I can clearly remember is moving to New York in 2001 and starting to work under UrbanCowboy, a creative design identity to help me stand out in a crowd of millions. In 2004, I was surprised to be acknowledged as one of the most influential designers by WebDesign Magazine in the UK. Digital Creative Arts would later go on to describe UrbanCowboy as "one of the hottest design companies around," and list me as one of the top five current illustrators. I was then approached by Corel to submit artwork to be used for an international campaign for 2005. From that summer on, I was able to gain media awareness, which helped push me into working as an independent designer full time.

How long have you been using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

CorelDRAW 7 or 8 was the first graphics program I learned while doing layouts and ad creation for various companies in Ottawa in 1998 when I was just starting off as a designer. Soon after, I started to use it to actually "draw" characters for the web, which would soon lead to proper illustrations.

How often do you use CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

I use it almost on a daily basis – at least three to five times a week.

What types of jobs do you do with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

I use the program to illustrate characters, as well as to create logos and manipulate fonts (type creation). I also use it to create designs for apparel.

What are your favorite features in CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

Overall, I still enjoy how easy it is to create vector images and manipulate nodes to create detail. I find the Transparency and Interactive Tools amazing to create the perfect tones for either skin or even metals for logos and objects. I also enjoy the plethora of objects, fonts and art included with the package. You never know when they will come in handy as decorative objects for various projects.

What do you think distinguishes CorelDRAW Graphics Suite from other products?

What distinguishes it is how easy it is to become familiar with the programs, and the ease of use of the many tools. It works on common logic, so it takes little time to become proficient at what you need to do. Although I've learned other programs, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite will always play a big role in the foundation for creation.

How do you feel about CorelDRAW Graphics Suite?

It's a great package the suits all areas of design at a great price. It's perfect to start off with and to continue with years later.
