Selecting image objects in Corel PHOTO-PAINT
This tip has been written for CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite X3. While similar features might be available in previous releases the tip will be fully applicable to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 and newer versions only.
Before you can change an object in Corel PHOTO-PAINT®, you must select it with the Object Pick tool 
or click its name in the Objects docker. A dashed outline, called an object marquee, appears around the selected object and indicates that this is the active object in the image. When the Object Pick tool is active, you'll also see a highlighting box with eight transformation handles surrounding the selected object. You can use the transformation handles to transform (resize, rotate, or skew) the object.

The object marquee is displayed by default around the active object, but you can hide or display it at any time by pressing Ctrl + Shift + H. This keyboard shortcut also lets you hide and display the marquee in the highlighting box.

If you want to select multiple objects, you can draw a marquee around them by using the Object Pick tool. Note that multiple objects can be selected in an image, but only one object can be active — the one surrounded by the object marquee. While you can move or transform all selected objects at the same time, certain changes you make apply only to the active object. For example, if you apply a fill or a special effect, the active object is modified, but the other selected objects remain unchanged.
