Our Executive Team

Tom Berquist, CEO

Tom Berquist serves as Corel's CEO and joined the company as Chief Financial Officer in September 2009. Passionate about photography, Tom is rarely seen without the latest gadget or his camera in hand. Anyone who has met Tom knows that his evangelism and contagious enthusiasm for consumer tech comes as second nature.

As Corel's Chief Financial Officer, Tom led the company's Finance, IT, Customer Support and Manufacturing teams in providing essential support services for the company's global operations. Prior to joining Corel, Tom was Chief Financial Officer at Ingres, a private open source software company based in Redwood City, CA. Tom also served as a Managing Director of Equity Research for Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Piper Jaffray where he covered several of the world's top software companies including Microsoft, Adobe, Intuit, Symantec, and Autodesk. As a Senior Manager at Deloitte Consulting, Tom was responsible for selling and managing large enterprise software implementation projects for customers including the City of Chicago, GMAC, Tyco International, US Bancorp, and Honeywell.

Tom holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Chris DeBiase, Chief Financial Officer

Chris DeBiase is Corel's Chief Financial Officer and has become an invaluable part of the executive team as he leads the company's Finance, M&A and Human Resources departments.

Chris has a BA in Economics from Brown University, and prior to joining Corel in March of 2010, served as the Vice President of Business Development for Ingres Corporation, where he was instrumental in managing a variety of M&A, Business Development and Finance functions. Chris also spent a number of years in the financial trenches of Wall Street where he served as Vice President Equity Research at both Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.

Patrick Nichols, President of WinZip Computing

Patrick Nichols has served as the President of WinZip Computing, a Corel Company, since Nov 2009. Mr. Nichols leads the business and strategic direction for WinZip, the world's most popular Zip utility, as well as the full WinZip file compression and security product line.

Prior to joining Corel, Mr. Nichols served as a General Manager within the Trilogy/Versata family of companies where he was responsible for new acquisitions and business ownership of a portfolio of Versata companies. Before joining Trilogy/Versata, Mr. Nichols worked as a product manager and technical consultant at Microsoft, and served as a researcher for the Department of Defense and Department of Energy through the Cornell Engineering and Theory Center. Mr. Nichols holds a BS from Cornell University.

Nick Davies, Executive Vice President and GM, Graphics & Productivity

Nick Davies has served as a member of Corel's senior executive team since joining the company in 2001. As Executive Vice President and GM, Graphics & Productivity, Mr. Davies is responsible for Corel's graphics and office productivity business. In this role, he oversees Business Strategy, Product Management, User Experience Design, Research & Development, Quality Assurance as well as Documentation and Localization for all graphics, illustration and business productivity applications including CorelDRAW, Painter, Designer, WordPerfect Office and Corel Office.

With over 15 years of strategic marketing and brand building experience, Mr. Davies previously held positions as Vice President EMEA for Ecademy Ltd., Brand and Marketing Manager for Coleman Europe, Commercial Manager France for Virgin Cola, and Marketing Director for Puma Sports company. Mr. Davies holds an MBA from INSEAD Business School in France, and a BA with honors in Business Administration from the European Business School in the United Kingdom.

Jussi Arovaara, Vice President of Global Sales

Jussi Arovaara has served as a member of Corel's senior executive team since 2011. In his earlier career with Corel, Jussi gained experience in a wide variety of roles, including senior management positions within Sales, Operations and Marketing, including Regional Manager for Nordic Region, Director of Business Development and Vice President of EMEA Sales. In his current role as Corel's Vice President of Global Sales, Jussi is responsible for defining global sales strategies, and driving the company's global channel and OEM sales across business units. He also oversees Corel's Field Marketing and Operations in Corel's global regions.

Prior to joining Corel, Jussi worked in IT distribution as a business unit leader covering the Nordic Region, Baltic Region and Russia. A Finnish native with over 20 years' experience in the technology sector, Jussi brings a wealth of international experience to his role having lived and worked in Finland, Canada and the UK. Jussi is also a member of the board of F-Secure Corporation and its audit committee. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors and during his time at Corel has served as a member of Business Software Alliance, EMEA Committee. On the rare occasions when Jussi isn't working, he can often be found sailing or skiing, with his trusty GoPro camera always close at hand.

Mark Fernandes, Vice President of Information Technology

Mark Fernandes has served as a member of Corel's Senior Executive team since 2012. He has held several positions at Corel, managing IT strategy, Operations, eCommerce, Product Development, Cloud Infrastructure and Subscription models. He has also worked on Mergers & Acquisitions, Expense Management, IT Governance and Off Shoring strategies.

Prior to Corel, Mark led the Application and Web Development teams at WatchFire, a software start-up that was acquired by IBM.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Commerce and Sociology from the University of Bombay. He also completed post-graduation studies in Information Technology at the Information Technology Institute in Ottawa, Canada.
