Increasing the Amount of Workspace
On a netbook, the Corel Home Office user interface automatically resizes to fit onscreen without compromising easy access to the tools you use the most. Even so, you may feel as though you need more room to work. Particularly on netbooks, screen real estate is a valuable commodity. Fortunately, Corel Home Office gives you a variety of ways to free up your workspace.
The tabbed toolbar is great – everyone loves the easy access – but it does take up space. There is a way to get rid of it in such a way that you can bring it back quickly.
To minimize the tabbed toolbar:
1. Click the Customize Quick Access Toolbar button (the down-facing arrow on the right side of the toolbar).
2. Choose Minimize the Tabbed Toolbar.
To restore the tabbed toolbar:
1. Click the Customize Quick Access Toolbar button.
2. Choose Minimize the Tabbed Toolbar.
There are two rulers in Corel Write: a horizontal ruler that shows left and right margins and tab settings; and the vertical ruler that shows the top and bottom margins. You can turn them off one at a time, or for maximum workspace, you can turn them both off. To turn them back on, reverse the steps.
To turn off the rulers:
1. Click View.
2. Disable the Show/Hide the Horizontal Ruler check box.
3. Disable the Show/Hide the Vertical Ruler check box.
To quickly remove all screen elements in one simple step, use the Full Screen option. The F11 key can also be used to turn the Full Screen mode on and off.
To switch to Full Screen:
1. Click View.
2. Click the Full Screen button.
To revert back to the normal screen, click the Full Screen button in the upper-left corner of the application window.
The task pane can take up valuable space on the right side of your application window, but you don’t have to give up the functionality just to save on screen space. You can set it to auto-hide, which means it’s there when you need it and hidden when you don’t.
To set the task pane to Auto Hide:
1. Click the push pin on the task pane title bar. The task pane shrinks into a button next to the vertical scroll bar.
2. Hover over the task pane button to open the task pane.
It may sound simplistic, but it happens all the time – valuable screen space is not being utilized because the application window is not maximized.
To maximize the application window:
1. Click the Maximize button (top-right corner of the title bar). The button looks like a blank page with a thick bar at the top.
2. To restore the application window to the previous size, click the Restore button (two stacked pages) on the application title bar.
