Besides teaching, Skip enjoys making custom brushes for Painter. While he has made Impasto and Liquid Ink brushes, his favorites are Watercolor. His brushes are available for free at his blog Skip Allen Paints.
"The Watcher was painted while on vacation at Saint George Island, Florida. I was sitting on the boardwalk looking at the Gulf lit by the half moon. The sun's light was disappearing and I turned to see the dusky sky. I snapped a picture. As usual, photographs only hint at what my mind's eye was seeing, but it gave me a good reference to start the painting. I love the versatility of Painter. I used my custom watercolor brushes in a non-traditional way with many layers to achieve the moody look."
