Name: Karen Sperling, Painter Master
Occupation/Profession: Author, Artist, Photographer, Publisher
Employer: Artistry Tips and Tricks and Artistry Retreats
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Karen Sperling wrote the very first Corel Painter manual when the program debuted in 1991. She subsequently went on to write the manuals for the next several versions of Painter, in addition to writing several published Painter books, including her bestselling Painting for Photographers. Karen has taught and demonstrated Painter for over 20 years in major venues including Disney Animation, the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and WPPI national conventions.

Karen earned the original Painter manual assignment because of her experience as a writer and an editor for major newspapers and magazines. Since then she has successfully transitioned from Painter expert to Painter artist, creating commissioned portraits and paintings that have been exhibited in New York and Miami Beach, with additional works held in private collections throughout the world. Karen continues to create books, DVD's, classes and tutorials on turning photos into paintings using Corel Painter. She has also created several new, highly successful Kindle versions of her popular Artistry tutorials.

Says Karen Sperling:
"My mother was an artist and I minored in art in college, but I never thought of myself as an artist. Using Painter gave me the confidence to do my own art, both with Painter's digital tools and with traditional media including oils, acrylics and pastels. I enjoy helping photographers learn how to turn their photos into paintings because I can relate to their thinking they can paint, but being afraid to try. I also love creating commissioned portraits and paintings for clients and collectors, which up until a few years ago, I thought only other people did. To say Painter changed my life is an understatement."
